OCTOBER 24, 25, 26, NOVEMBER 1, 2 | Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare

1920px digi signage_Twelfth Night F24.jpg

Directed by Mellissa Marlowe
Presented by NVC Drama

Location: LOH Amphitheater
Dates: October 24, 25, 26, November 1 and 2
Time: 7:30pm
Free Admission

Twelfth Night is one of Shakespeare’s funniest and most beloved comedies. It draws its title from Epiphany, or Three King’s Day, (the 12th night following Christmas,) though the play has nothing to do with the holiday season at all! In fact, we learn from the text that it actually takes place in May. However, this play was written to provide entertainment for the close of the holiday season, which officially ends at Epiphany. Although the play is set in the ancient city of Ilyria, we have chosen to set our production of Twelfth Night in the early 1980s, in a magical modern Ilyria where punk music and noblemen coexist in harmony. We hope you enjoy!

NOVEMBER 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 | When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet by Charles George
When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet
by Charles George

Directed by Michelle Pietri
Presented by NVC Drama
Location: Black Box Theatre
Dates: November 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23
Time: 7:30pm
Free Admission

When Shakespeare's Ladies Meet is a clever and insightful one-act play that imagines a gathering of some of Shakespeare’s most iconic female characters. Set in a timeless space, these women—each representing different aspects of love and womanhood—come together to offer advice to Juliet, who is on the brink of her fateful romance with Romeo. Through their conversation, the play humorously explores themes of love, loyalty, and the roles women are often expected to play. It's a witty reflection on Shakespeare’s portrayal of women, highlighting their strengths, desires, and wisdom in a way that feels both timeless and refreshingly modern.

The soloists are piano duo, Dino Mulic and Sangmi Lim from Corpus Christi’s TX A&M University, percussionists Ian Fry, Richard Hilms, and Lux Musicae’s Artistic Director John E. Godoy.

The ten variations are based on the theme of Paganini’s 24 Caprices. Other well known composers who have set the lively and introspective variations to compositional treatment are Rachmaninov, Lutoslawski, Busoni among others.

Kim Helweg’s America Fantasy is a sonata form four-movement work (Allegro, Adagio, Scherzo & Finale) based loosely on themes from West Side Story Suite. It also has some iconic references to Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos & Percussion.
